		New Developments in Diabetes Care September 15-16, 2006 General Information   I  Registration   I   Schedule   I   Speakers This course is offered to update the educational needs of all health professionals (endocrinologists, primary care physicians, endocrinology fellows and residents-in-training, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians, and physician assistants) who participate in the care of individuals with diabetes. Topics are designed to address the challenges patients face in living with diabetes in today’s world and how health professionals can make a difference. It will provide the participant with a comprehensive learning experience through lectures, and question and answer sessions. Time and Location September 15-16, 2006 The Galveston Island Convention Center, Galveston, TX Educational Objectives At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to: Examine the management of diabetes utilizing pharmacological and lifestyle interventions to minimize risk factors and complications.   Describe culturally appropriate teaching/treatment strategies.   Review the physiologic benefits of exercise and weight management.   Explain the recent advances in insulin pump therapy.   Recognize the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease in patients with diabetes.   Discuss the role of technology in a diabetes practice.
